JAMMU, Sept 5: Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Jammu East Rajesh Gupta today visited Canal Road area and inaugurated the construction work of deepening and widening of drains in the area.
The area in and around Canal Road is prone to suffering inundation during the rainy season due to extremely narrow drains and also due to the accumulation of debris and waste over the years. The problem has plagued the area starting from Jewel upto Canal Head and no solution was provided for the same by previous Governments. As a result of this, the people of the area have suffered extensive damage to their shops and houses. The area also has many landmark colleges and institutions of learning, the students studying in these colleges have also suffered over the years.
MLA Rajesh Gupta has taken it as a mission to rid the area of the problem of water logging and inundation during the monsoon period. The construction work was kick started today by MLA in presence of PWD AEE Yasir Kichloo and senior BJP leaders Shiv Kumar Gupta, Gulshan Mahajan, Karan Singh, Sunil, Dalip, Girdhari Lal, Gurucharan Singh, Balraj Gupta and Surinder Pargal. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 7 lakh.
Rajesh Gupta directed the concerned officials to complete the work in the shortest possible time.
Among others present were Vinod, Ravi, Bittu, Ashok Kumar, Rajeev Bhardwaj, PC Gupta, Kuldeep Ajay, Lalit, Brij Lal, Rakesh Bhalla, Ashwani, Chaman Lal, Manav, Raj Kumar, Gopal, Rajesh Nischal and Amit.
