VISAKHAPATNAM, Oct 12: In a landmark moment for Indian women’s cricket, the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) today honoured two of Andhra Pradesh’s most iconic women cricketers – Mithali Raj and Raavi Kalpana – by naming a stand and a gate after them at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
The Mithali Raj Stand and Raavi Kalpana Gate were formally inaugurated by Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh, in the presence of top cricketing dignitaries including ICC Chairman Jay Shah, BCCI President Mithun Manhas and ACA President Kesineni Sivanath. The event also saw the attendance of ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta, Cricket Australia Chairman Mike Baird, CEO Todd Greenberg, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia and Joint Secretary Prabhtej Bhatia.
ACA officials including Secretary Sana Sathish Babu, Vice-President Bandaru Narasimha Rao and Treasurer Dandamudi Srinivas were among the key organisers present at the ceremony. The move has been widely appreciated as a strong step toward recognising the contributions of women in Indian cricket, particularly in Andhra Pradesh.
