‘Mission Indradhanush’ to be launched in Jammu tomorrow

*217 mobile teams to cover 543 high risk areas

JAMMU, Oct 6: A health mission known as “Mission Indradhanush” will be launched in Jammu on October 8. The mission will be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Gujarat at national level and by Health Minister Bali Bhagat at Primary Health Centre (PHC) Kot Bhalwal at State level.

This was stated by Director Family Welfare, MCH and Immunization Dr Samir Mattoo while interacting with media person here today. He was accompanied by Assistant Director Family Welfare Dr Yangchan Dolma, CMO Jammu Dr Sanjay Turki and Consultant WHO Ravinder Pal Singh.
Dr Mattoo stated that the focused and systematic immunization drive will be through a ‘catch-up’ campaign mode where the aim is to cover all the children who have been left out or missed out for immunization.
“Even on holidays, the field workers–ANM and Female Multi Purpose Health Workers (FMPHW) will carry out the immunization mission”, he added.
He informed that the observers from Government of India will monitor the working regarding to the immunization being conducted by the Health Department in Jammu.
To a query, Dr Mattoo said, “We immunize every child under the age of 2 years in Jammu whether he is from Rohingyas or any other family as it is our foremost duty to save the lives of the people residing in our country inspite of any caste, religion or colour”, Dr Mattoo added.
“During survey, people in many areas resisted for not conducting the immunization in their areas, but we appeal to them to be the part of this immunization and save their children from eight vaccine preventable diseases”, CMO Dr Sanjay Turki said while responding to a query.
About beneficiaries, CMO informed that beneficiaries as per head count at present are 1800 children and 250 pregnant women, “The figures will likely increase due to migratory population. 749 fixed sessions have been planned and visits of 217 mobile teams have also been planned to visit whole Jammu District including Jammu Urban and 9 blocks namely Bishnah, RS Pura, Sohanjana, Marh, Akhnoor, Plannwala, Chowki Choura, Dansal and Kot Bhalwal and will cover 543 high risk areas including slums”, Dr Turki added.
