Missing youth’s body recovered from Chenab

JAMMU, Feb 17: The dead body of Abhishek Kumar, a youth from Akhnoor who had been missing for a week in the Chenab River in the town, has been recovered from the river in Pakistan by the Pakistani Rangers. The Pakistani Rangers handed over the body to the BSF late last evening.
According to information received, Abhishek Kumar (23), son of Babu Ram a resident of Ward No. 12 in Akhnoor town, went missing a week ago, following which his family filed a report at the Akhnoor Police Station. His bike was found at Chandia Ghat on the Chenab River and he had been missing since then.
Abhishek worked at a private shop at Akhnoor. There were widespread fears that he might have drowned in the Chenab River. He was going to be married shortly. On Tuesday, the Pakistan Rangers informed BSF and the police officials via phone about a dead body in the Chenab River, and the body was identified as belonging to Akhnoor, as per Aadhar card.
Following this, a team comprising an SI and family members from Akhnoor Police Station left for Suchetgarh, the border of RS Pura, and at around 7 pm, a flag meeting was held with the BSF and Pakistan Rangers regarding the body of Abhishek Kumar. After coordination, the body of the deceased was handed over to his legal heirs at Octroi Post, Suchetgarh.
Following this, the BSF and police completed the legal formalities and handed over the body to the family members late night.
