Srinagar, June 17: There are still no traces of a youth from Srinagar who went missing during a trekking expedition to Gangbal Lake in the upper reaches of Ganderbal district.
The officials told Excelsior that till this evening, there were no traces of the youth, while the teams from the police and the mountaineering and Hiking Club were still carrying out searches.
The brother of the youth has joined the searches carried out by the teams in the upper reaches of the area.
In this regard, the family members, relatives along with the neighbors of the youth today staged a protest urging the authorities to help them in tracing their son.
Hilal Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Dar, a resident of Bemina Srinagar went missing during the intervening night of June 14-15 while he was on a trekking expedition with three of his friends to Gangbal, which is in the upper reaches of Ganderbal.
The protestors were demanding that the authorities should help them in tracing their son, while as also expediting the search that has been launched by the concerned department.
The family, after their son did not reach home on Sunday evening filed a missing report at the police station Kangan. After the incident was reported on Tuesday, an eight-member team was constituted to trace the missing youth.
The family said that a group of five youth went for trekking to Gangabal Lake on Sunday morning and were supposed to return home in the evening.
“Four of the members returned home, one among them, Hilal Ahmed Dar, a resident of Bemina Srinagar is still missing,” the family said.
Earlier, Director Industries, Mahmood Shah, who is also president Jammu and Kashmir Mountaineering and Hiking Club (JKMHC) informed on his Twitter handle that an 8 member JKMHC team has started search for the missing man.
The helpless family has appealed the Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu and Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Dr. Shahid Iqbal to intervene into the matter and help them in tracing their beloved.
