SRINAGAR, Nov 11: The family members of an Army soldier from Shopian who went missing after returning home on vacations today protested seeking whereabouts of their son.
Scores of family members including relatives assembled in the Press Enclave Srinagar and raised slogans against the inaction of police and other agencies in tracing their son.
The family members said that more than 4 months have passed now and till date, no police officer has visited their place. Neither, they said, efforts have been made to trace him seriously.
Rifleman Shakir Manzoor, 24, a resident of Rishipora village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district, was abducted on August 2 this year after he left his home. He was on vacations.
“He left home and did not come back. No one has come to ask me what happened to him, nor have they taken any action so far,” his father Manzoor Ahmad told reporters here.
It is to be noted here that regarding him, unverified audio had surfaced on social media in which a suspected militant can be heard claiming to have killed Shariq; however, to ascertain that his body was never recovered.
Also, his car, in which he was travelling, was later found torched in the neighbouring Kulgam district. His family also found his torn clothes with bloodstains in an orchard.
However, the family said that they want to know the whereabouts of their son and also rue the inaction by the police and other agencies. “We appeal LG of J&K and IGP, Kashmir to look into the matter,” his father said.
The family demands CBI inquiry into the matter. “They should at least tell us something, if he is dead, give us his body and if he is alive, then trace him out,” the family members said.
