Missing Handwara boy traced after decade

Srinagar, Apr 29: The Jammu and Kashmir police Thursday reunited a 24-year-old youth with his family members after remaining missing for over a decade in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Police Officers in Vilgam area of Handwara said that the youth identified as Mohammad Ashraf Chauhan (24) son of Fazal Din Chauhan a resident of Suchalyari in Handwara had gone missing in the year 2010 from his native place and the family members had thought of him being dead.
Police said that some traces were received over months back about him being alive. “Using the resources we traced him in Srinagar and today, he was handed over to his family,” police said.
The police said that the youth was scared of returning home as he was apprehensive of being punished. Also, the police said that a missing report was also filed and the investigation was on, “but the same has been closed now.”
The youth over the years have been working in Jammu, Srinagar and presently at IUST Awantipora Canteen.
The family members of the youth said that they are on cloud nine and could not recognize their son at the first.
