JAMMU, Oct 30: Congress Member Parliament (MP) Choudhary Lal Singh, had a miraculous escape when front tyre of his official car burst on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in district Udhampur, this morning.
The lawmaker was travelling in the Ambassador car when a tyre of the vehicle burst in Mand area in Tikri belt, police sources said. They added that Singh was on way to Banihal area of Ramban district to address a public rally.
“Police and locals rushed to the spot and helped the squad and other party activists travelling in the vehicle”, they said, adding, that MP was later shifted to another vehicle.
“It was a close shave. It is unfortunate that the Government has failed in maintaining the vehicles provided to politicians,” MP told here.
He claimed that the Government is duty bound to provide well maintained vehicles to the people, who are traveling in their constituencies having tough terrain.
“I had raised the issue of this old vehicle with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Police in the past and asked for its replacement”, Singh said adding that nothing was done.
He added that the bullet-proof vehicle had come back to him just a day before his visit to remote Banihal constituency.
“This is totally a security lapse, I must say and I hold the Government responsible for not taking such incidents seriously”, he said.
