3 of a family among 5 killed as car rolls down into nallah on highway

JAMMU, Feb 15: Five persons including three members of a family were killed while a 3-years-old girl had miraculous escape when the Eeco car they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into Raggi Nallah on Batote-Doda-Kishtwar highway in mountainous Doda district.
As per police sources, the ill-fated vehicle bearing temporary registration number was on its way to Batote from Doda, when the driver lost control over the vehicle and it plunged into Raggi Nallah on Batote-Doda-Kishtwar highway in Doda district today evening, resulting into on the spot death of five persons.
On getting information, a team from Police Station Assar led by SHO Inspector Inderjeet Singh rushed to the spot and started operation to retrieve the bodies of the deceased from the nallah with the help of SSB personnel, locals and volunteers.
After hectic efforts, the bodies were retrieved from the deep gorge and shifted to mortuary of District Hospital Doda for autopsy, which will be conducted tomorrow.
The deceased have been identified as Bhag Devi, wife of Girdhari Lal of Jatheli, at present Nagri district Doda, Chander Rekha, wife of Ajit Singh, a resident of Jatheli, at present Nagri district Doda, Ishan, son of Ajit Singh, a resident of Jatheli, at present Nagri district Doda, Rakesh Kumar, son of Datta Ram of Ganika Bhagwa district Doda and Ajit Singh, son of Dhyan Singh of Bajarni district Doda.
A girl namely Ananya (3), daughter of Ajit Singh of Jatheli, at present Nagri district Doda, who lost her parents and brother in this tragic accident had miraculous escape. She received minor brushes in the accident and was handed over to legal heirs.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Police Station Assar and investigation started to ascertain the cause of the accident.
Meanwhile, Union Minister in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh who happens to be the Member Parliament from Udhampur-Doda constituency has expressed shock over the incident and conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
“Saddened by loss of precious lives in tragic accident at Raggi Nallah, Doda, J&K. Though right now, I’m personally in Assam, but have spoken to DC Doda Dr Sagar D Doifode and appreciated the prompt response from administration. Have also offered to provide from my side, whatever assistance required”, tweets Dr Jitendra Singh.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has also expressed grief over the loss of lives in this tragic accident.
“Deeply saddened by the loss of lives in an unfortunate road accident in Doda district. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. May God give them strength to bear this loss”, tweeted Lieutenant Governor.
