SRINAGAR, Sept 27: The J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Ghulam Ahmad Mir today sought immediate rehabilitation of displaced shopkeepers of Lower Munda (Qazigund) ensuring that they were able to resume their business activities.
In a statement, JKPCC president Ghulam Ahmad Mir expressed serious concern over the worst economic crisis confronting shopkeepers of Lower Munda (Old Toll Post), who lost their livelihood due to the opening of Qazigund Bye Pass.
JKPCC president termed the delay in their rehabilitation as very unfortunate and condemnable.
The shopkeepers had been promised to allot shops at Cheki Wangund after construction of shopping complex and TRC at the gateway, but no action with regard to their rehabilitation has been initiated, neither the Shopping Complex, nor the TRC as earlier decided to construct in collaboration with Tourism Department, has come up.
The shopkeepers and other people living adjacent have also given their land for construction of Qazigund Bye Pass against meagre compensation, enabling NHAI to proceed, but it was unfortunate that administration as well as NHAI have rendered them jobless by not fulfilling their promise of rehabilitation.
“I would urge the Lt Governor to seek detailed report with regard to construction of Shopping Complex and TRC at Cheki-Wangund to fix the responsibility,” Mir added and reiterated that the shopkeepers must be rehabilitated, at right earnest to ensure they were able to earn their livelihood.
