Minor dies, 4 hurt in road accidents

POONCH, May 4 : A 12-year-old boy died and an elderly person sustained injuries after a vehicle fell into a gorge in Dera ki Gali area on Bufliaz- Thanamandi road while three minors were injured when a cycle and scooty collided near sports stadium, Poonch today.
Reports said that an Eeco vehicle bearing registration number JK12B-1230 met with an accident on Thanamandi-Bufliaz road, resulting injuries to two persons. The duo was taken to SDH Surankote, however, one among them with critical injuries was declared dead on arrival by the doctors there.
An official identified the deceased as 12-year-old Umar Khan son of Showket Amin, resident of Sawani and the injured as 60 year old Chaudhary Fazal Ahmedm son of Faiz Mohd, also resident of Sawani. SHO Surankote, Niaz Ahmed confirmed about the incident and the death of the minor.
Meanwhile, locals in the area staged a protest against local medical authorities, claiming that PHC Bufliaz was locked when they reached the health facility with the injured persons. “Once we reached the PHC with injured persons, we found it locked”, a group of locals said.
“We had to take the injured to the SDH, Surankote for treatment,” they added.
“Had the boy received treatment in time, his life could have saved”, they said and demanded action against the staff posted at PHC Bufliaz.
Meanwhile, three minor boys were injured when a cycle and a scooty collided near sports stadium Poonch this afternoon. The minor scooty rider could not control his speedy two wheeler, resulting into a collision with the cycle on which two children were travelling. All the three injured were removed to district hospital, Poonch.
They were identified as Mohd Owais (12); Rizwan (13), son of Abdul Majid and Ishtiaq (16), son of Ghulam Hussain, all residents of Poonch. The police has taken cognizance of the matter.
