JAMMU, Dec 24: A 12-year old boy was today crushed to death by a tipper in Purkhoor area of city outskirts following which people stage a protest demanding compensation for the family of the deceased boy.
According to the reports, the boy identified as Dimple Kumar son of late Raj Kumar, resident of Bazzigar Basti, Purkhoo, was a student of Government Middle School, Mishriwala and had just come out of his home to go to school, when he was crushed to death under the wheels of a tipper bearing registration number JK02AU-9047 at a link road passing through Bazzigar Basti, this morning.
The body of the deceased was shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu and after completing all medico-legal formalities it was handed over to its legal heirs for last rites.
But instead of performing last rites of the child, the angry family members along with their neighbours assembled on Jammu-Akhnoor road at Purkhoo along with the body of the deceased boy and staged a strong protest. They disrupted vehicular traffic for about half an hour. The protesting people were demanding compensation for the family of the deceased.
On getting information of protest, a police team from police station Kanachak led by SHO Rajesh Sharma and SDPO Domana, Surinder Sharma reached the spot and tried to pacify the protesters but all in vain.
Thereafter, officers of civil administration including ADC Jammu, Arun Manhas reached the spot and provided immediate compensation of Rs one lakh from Red Cross Fund following which the protesters pacified and lifted the blockade.
Meanwhile, according to SDPO Domana, Surinder Sharma, a case under relevant sections has been registered against the accused tipper driver, who is on large and efforts are on to nab him while the tipper has been seized.
