KATHUA, Feb 12: A Minister’s visit to a wrestling event had to be cancelled after supporters of two groups of wrestlers engaged in a scuffle here at Mahi Chak Village in Kathua district.
As per available information, a Dangal was organised at Village Mahi Chak by Mahi Chak Mandal Committee, where several high-profile wrestlers from different states of the country had arrived to participate in the sport.
Minister for Jal Shakti Department (JSD), Javed Ahmed Rana, was supposed to attend the event as the chief guest but before his arrival, two group of wrestlers who shared an old enmity, engaged in a scuffle and pelted stones and bricks at each other, thus, disrupting the event.
In view of the escalating tension between the groups, the Minister Javed Ahmed Rana cancelled his visit to the event.
According to SHO Kathua, Sandeep Singh, no wrestler was injured in the scuffle. As such, no FIR was registered till the press time.
