JAMMU, Nov 7: Mining mafia tried to crush the vehicle of Special Task Force (STF) officials constituted by the Government to check the menace of illegal extraction of sand and other mineral from river Tawi and its tributaries in Jammu area here today.
Official sources said that STF was constitured by Govermnet with Addl DC (L&O) Jammu as its chairman, SP Hqrs Jammu, Assistant Conservator of Forests Jammu and District Mineral Officer (DMO) Jammu as its members.
Last night, acting on the basis of some inputs, members of the STF team, DMO Ankur Sachdev and ACF Rushal Garg conducted surprise checking in Tawi area. They spotted a Tipper coming from Tawi bank side and tried to stop it. But driver along with other people in the vehicle sped away. The car of ACF was chasing the Tipper but 2-3 times, the Tipper driver stried to hit the official vehicle. The Tipper driver unloaded the Bajri on the road to stop the chasing vehicle.
Even the driver of Tipper No. JK02CE/2939 tried to crush two Forest guards as well when they came out and tried to stop. And finally, he managed to escape from the spot near Soap Factory, Paloura. Later, an FIR was lodged with the Janipur Police Station in this connection.
Official sources said that despite ban, the mining mafia is calandestinely operating in Tawi area during night hours.
