Mining ban badly hit daily wage earners: Tractor Union

JAMMU, Oct 17: Unemployed drivers and helpers under the leadership of Arif Hussain, Chairman Tractor Union here today staged a protest demonstration against the ban on mining.
A handout stated that political activist, Partap Singh Jamwal along with Nikhil Sharma also supported the demand of protesters and said thousands of families whose livelihood is linked with sand and stone mining at river beds are now out of jobs due to ban on mining activities.
Partap said that over thousands of labourers engaged in sand mining are badly affected by the ban.
He claimed that common people know nothing about benefits from the ban on mining but they only know that the ban is bringing lot of misery to them.
Earlier, Arif Hussain said the ban on mining has largely affected daily wage earners who are totally dependent on mining activities.
He threatened more agitations if the government fails to come with a positive response to address the grievances at the earliest.
Ishar, Sonu Sharma and others were also present in the protest.
