Militants flee after firing at SOG naka

SRINAGAR, Aug 17: Security forces tonight launched a search operation in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district after a group of militants fired on a police party and fled when they were asked to stop, leaving behind the car in which they were travelling.
Sources said that Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Pulwama, were conducting checking of vehicles at Litter village in Pulwama this evening as they had inputs about movement of militants in the area.
The SOG party tried to stop a Maruti car bearing registration number JK22- 2661 but the militants travelling in it fired few rounds on them leaving behind the car and fled towards Litter village.
The SOG party and 55 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) of Army launched massive operations against the militants who left behind the car and fled. Sources say that there were 2-3 militants in the car.
There is a security alert in Pulwama after four attacks on security forces this week in which six persons including 5 security force personnel were killed and 12 BSF men, including an Assistant Commandant were injured.
