7 pilgrims injured in landslide

KATRA, Aug 17: Seven pilgrims of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi were injured in landslide and shooting of stones following heavy rains on new track to the Bhawan, near Adh-Kunwari, here late last night.
The injured, who included a couple and a father-son duo, were rushed to PHC Katra where doctors referred them to Government Medical College Hospital Jammu for advanced treatment.
Identity of the injured persons was established as Ram Dass, son of Kanchan Singh of Madhya Pradesh, his son Shubam Rathore (14), Vijay Kumar (34), son of Jia Lal of Bihar, his wife Anita Kumari (30), Foolwati (50), wife of Chanderbhanu of MP, Satinder Chakravorti (52) son of Radha Ranjan Chakravorti of Banaras (UP) and Vishwanath (51), son of Goyal Mohan of Baranasi.
Following the incident, which took place about 3.5 kms ahead of the Bhawan around 1 a m late last night, pilgrimage on the new track was suspended for some hours and it could be restored in the morning after clearance of boulders.
“The pilgrimage remained halted on the new track for more than five hours and it was restored after 6 a m following clearance of the route,” said Additional SP Katra, Kulbir Singh.
Condition of the injured, admitted in GMC Hospital Jammu, was stated to be stable.
