CRPF officer injured in grenade attack on NC leader’s house

Srinagar, Oct 22: A militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Handwara area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district while two persons including a woman were killed by militants in South Kashmir today.
Acting on a specfic information regarding presence of three militants including top Lashkar-e-Toiba commander Abu Maaz in Hajin area of Kralgund in Handwara, Army’s 9 Para and SOG Handwara launched a cordon-and-search operation at around 5 am today.
The militants hiding in the area opened fire on the troops, triggering an encounter. A Pakistani militant was killed and his identity is being ascertained.
The two other militants including Abu Maaz managed to escape but security forces have launched a massive operation against the two militants. However, no contact was established with them so far.
A woman was killed and another injured as militants fired on them at Seer village of Tral this morning in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Militants barged inside a house in Seer Jagir, Tral and fired at the women present there. Among them, 18-year old girl identified as Yasmeena daughter of Ghulam Rasool Bhat, resident of Khonmoh was killed and another Rubeena wife of Mohammad Shafi Wagay, resident of Seer Jagir, Tral was injured. She was shifted to SDH Tral where from she was referred to SMHS hospital for further treatment.
Security forces immediately reached the spot and massive searches were launched against the assailants.
And militants this evening shot dead a street vendor Shakir Ahmad, resident of Uttar Pradesh in Arwani area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Meanwhile, Pakistan violated ceasefire in Kamalkote sector of Uri in Baramulla district of North Kashmir for second consecutive day today. Pakistani troops fired on Army posts  in the sector this morning.
The Pakistani troops started firing at 10.50 am and continued till 11.20 am. The Army gave befitting reply to Pakistani ceasefire violations. However, there was no loss of life or injury to anyone in the firing.
It may be mentioned here that an Army porter was killed and a teenager girl and a woman were injured after Pakistani troops allegedly resorted to unprovoked firing in the area yesterday.
In the meantime, a paramilitary CRPF officer was injured after militants lobbed a grenade on the house of a National Conference leader and former legislator Mohammad Ashraf Bhat.
Militants hurled the grenade in which a CRPF officer Ali Mohammad of 180 battalion was injured. The security guards also retaliated by firing but militants managed to escape. Security forces have launched a hunt to nab the assailants.
Security forces today cordoned off Kota Sernard forest area of Bandipora district and conducted searches as they had reports about presence of some militants in the area.
Army’s 14 RR and Special Operation Group (SOG) cordoned off the forest area after reports about presence of a group of 2 to 3 militants hiding inside the forests. Troops fired some warning shots. However, there was no response from militants.
