Militant killed, soldier martyred

JAMMU, July 7: One militant was killed and a soldier martyred in Gusso area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district during an encounter today.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said that a joint team of Police, Army’s 53 RR and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Gusso after inputs about presence of militants hiding in the area.

As the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off an encounter.
Two Army personnel and one police man were injured in the encounter and they were referred to 92-Base hospital at BB cantonment Srinagar.
Kumar said that during the encounter, one soldier identified as Naik Rajvinder Singh of 53 RR was critically injured and was shifted to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
He said that one unidentified militant was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter. His identification and affiliation is being ascertained. Sources identified him as Mudasir Ahmad of Laribal Kakpora in district Pulwama. Another militant, however, managed to escape from the cordon.
The IGP said that the killed militant along with already slain militant Arshid Ahmad were involved in the killing of a labourer Suhas Seith of Chhattisgarh. He said that he was active since 2018.
“Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror crimes”, Police said.
“Keeping in view the prevailing pandemic due to COVID-19 and to ensure the safety of people from inherent risk of contracting the infection, the dead body of the killed terrorist will be sent to Baramulla for burial and last rites after completion of medico-legal formalities”, Police said.
And Police in Sopore along with security forces arrested an Over Ground Worker of Lashkar-e-Toiba.
Police said that Sopore Police along with 52 RR and 177 Bn CRPF after receiving a credible input established a checkpoint at Sangrama crossing have arrested an OGW who has been identified as Sajad Ahmad Khan son of Anaytullah Khan, resident of Dachi Uri Baramulla.
“Incriminating materials including arms and ammunitions have been recovered from his possession”, police said.
A case (FIR No.62/2020 under relevant Sections of law) has been registered at Police Station Tarzoo and further investigation has been initiated.
And security forces today recovered three AK-47 rifles and two pistols alongwith magazines and ammunition from Maidain Nallah in Uri sector during searches.
