Srinagar, June 30: One militant was killed and another fled from the cordon in Bugam area of Chadoora in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district early today.
A joint team of Army’s 53 RR and SOG Budgam cordoned off Bugam village in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district and conducted searches. The troops launched the operation on the basis of inputs about presence of a group of Hizbul Mujahideen militants hiding in the village.

The militants fired on the troops during the operation leading to a gun battle in which one militant was killed. He has been identified as Hizbul Mujahideen militant Hilal Ahmad Bhat of Armulla, Pulwa-ma.
Police said that he was wanted by law for his complicity in militancy including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities.
“According to the police records, Hilal Bhat had a history of terror crime records since 2017 and was involved in planning and executing several terror attacks in the area. Several terror crime cases were registered against him including case FIR No. 12/2018 pertaining to damage caused to a vehicle and residential house of a civilian at Niloora and Case FIR No. 33/2018 pertaining to a landmine blast at Gudbug, Pulwama”, police said.
“Incriminating material including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All these materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror crimes”, police said.
Another militant who was hiding in the nearby orchards of the village fled from the village with the help of locals.
And a 25-year old youth was shot at in Old Town area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district this evening.
Militants this evening fired upon Sameer Ahmad Ahanger at Old Town this evening. Shopkeeper by profession, he suffered serious bullet injuries in his leg and abdomen and was shifted to a nearby district hospital for treatment.
Soon after the incident security forces reached the spot and launched a hunt to nab the assailants. Police has also taken cognizance of the incident and took up further investigations.
