Militant involved in police officer’s killing shot dead in Anantnag

Srinagar, Dec 26: A militant of Islamic State Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK) who was involved in the killing of a police officer was shot dead by security forces during an overnight encounter in Anantnag.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, said that security forces last evening trapped ISJK militant Faheem Bhat, resident of Kandipora, Anantnag in Srigufwara village. He said that Bhat was involved in the killing of a Police Assistant Sub-Inspector Ali Mohmmad near Police Station Bijbehara.

Police and security forces launched an operation based on specific information generated by police regarding the presence of a militant in village K Kalan Sirgufwara area of Anantnag.
“During the search operation, as the presence of militant got ascertained, he was given ample opportunities to surrender. However, he denied the surrender opportunities and instead fired indiscriminately on the joint search party which was retaliated leading to an encounter”, a police spokesman said.
“In the ensuing encounter, the trapped militant was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter. He has been identified as Faheem Bhat, a resident of Kandipora, Anantnag affiliated with proscribed terror outfit ISJK”, he said.
“Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from his possession. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation”, the spokesman added.
Bhat had recently joined the militancy and was the main accused in the ASI’s killing.
The IGP said that in the last 48 hours, joint teams of police and security forces neutralized six militants in four successful anti-terrorist operations without any collateral damage. He congratulated security forces for successful operations.
In the meantime, two police men were injured in a grenade attack in Pulwama today.
Militants hurled a grenade near Post Office Washbug Pulwama in which two police personnel were injured. They were shifted to nearby hospital for the treatment of their injuries.
Police have registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law. Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
The area was cordoned off and search launched. However, no one was arrested or detained.
