JAMMU, July 27: The non camp migrants continued protest at Jagti township for the second consecutive day today demanding allotment of quarters to genuine and deserving people living in rented accommodations.
The protestors including men and women warned to continue the dharna till their demand is met. They accused the Relief organization of betrayal and ignoring the genuine migrants by giving preference to some influential people.
In a statement issued by non camp migrants led by Nana Ji Dembi, Ashok Pandit and Vikas Koul said that they have filed their objections in relief organization today challenging the list.
They, while contesting the claim of Relief organization said that if 15,000 migrant families had applied for allotment of quarters and on what basis 14,500 were rejected and 500 quarters were allotted. Where not the genuine people among these 14500 families, they asked?
They warned to continue the agitation till demand is met.
All Migrant Camp Coordination Committee (AMCCC) chairman, Desh Rattan has also criticized the rationale behind the allotment of quarters and demanded that the genuine migrants who are still pending be given justice without further delay.
He said in case these migrants fail to get justice AMCCC will join the agitation launched by them.
Meanwhile an emergency meeting of Kashmiri Migrant Welfare Association (KMWA) here today held under the chairmanship of Ravi Kumar has expressed its satisfaction over the allotment of 549 quarters to the deserving migrant families by the coalition Government led by Omar Abdullah.
The meeting said that Omar Abdullah, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister, Raman Bhalla and Relief Commissioner, R K Pandita have taken timely step by allotting quarters to seven camp inmates of Purkhoo, nine of Muthi, two of Mishriwala, 31 of Nagrota, 13 of Gulshan Ground, 110 of Channi Himmat, 60 to patients, 61 to widows and 259 to non camp migrants in fair and transparent manner.
