JAMMU, Nov 12: Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) received national-level recognition when its team was recognized as a top innovator at the Eighth India Innovation Initiative, jointly organized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII).
The entry from MIET was the software analytics framework, Performance Insight 360 which is already a multiple award winning software developed by the Centre for Software Development at MIET. In round 1 of the competition, the entry from MIET was selected in the top 51 across India out of 600 entries. In the second and final round, the entry from MIET finished in the top 9 awardees in the country and received the Startup Board Award carrying cash prize of rupees ten thousand and support to commercialize the product.
MIET was the only institute from North India which won an award at this national level innovation competition.
The team from MIET comprised Prof Ankur Gupta, Director MIET and Chief Designer of Performance Insight 360, Sahil Sawhney, Product Manager, Rishi Sharma, Software Architect and Purnendu Prabhat, Software Engineer.
Prof Ankur Gupta described this achievement as significant for MIET and the State of J&K. He felt that the recent awards received by MIET at the national level indicate that MIET has managed to create and nurture a culture of innovation which sets it apart from other private institutions.
Besides, the vision of MIET is to become a practicing technical institution rather than a purely academic one. With 13 patents filed and armed with a potential grant of Rs 75 lakh from MSME for a Technology Business Incubator, MIET is set to incubate ten companies from campus which will create an entrepreneurial buzz in the region.
Chairman, MIER Dr Arun K Gupta and Director, MIER Dr Renu Gupta extended commiserations to the team MIET on this fantastic showing at the national level and set a target for MIET to launch a full-fledged centre for research, innovation and entrepreneurship at MIET in the next few months.
