JAMMU, Nov 4: Smt. Shanti Gupta Centre for Women Studies (SSGCWS), MIER College of Education organized a one-day workshop on the theme ‘Advancing Gender Equality through CEDAW’.
The resource person in the workshop was Dr. Malvika Upadhya—an eminent social scientist from Delhi.
Dr. Renu Gupta, Vice-Chairperson MIER was the guest of honour on this occasion while Dr. Adit Gupta, Principal MIER College, HoDs of various departments of the College, faculty and students of UG and PG Departments also attended the workshop.
In welcome address, Dr. Rohnika Sharma, HoD UG Department introduced Dr. Upadhya.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Upadhya said that gender equality is essential for the achievement of human rights for all.
“To fight all forms of discrimination against women on an international platform, a Convention for the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) was set up by United Nations 1979,” she informed and comprehensively explained the structure of the Convention saying that it consists of six parts and 30 articles.
The programme was conducted by Sheweta Langeh, a B.Ed student. Monika Rathore, Coordinator SSGCWS presented a formal vote of thanks.
