MHA team reviews security situation in J&K with top officials of Admn

Projects under PMDP too discussed

JAMMU, Mar 1: A high-level team of the Union Home Ministry today reviewed security situation in Jammu and Kashmir with top civil and police officials of the administration.
The team also discussed issues of the Union Territory referred to the MHA. Working of some Departments was reviewed in a separate session.
However, no official statement was issued by the administration on security review and other meetings.

Sources, however, told the Excelsior that the Home Ministry team headed by Prashant Lokhande, Joint Secretary (Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh) and comprising Director Security among others met Additional Chief Secretary (Home) RK Goyal and Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh and had detailed review of security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting lasted nearly three hours.
“All aspects of security scenario came up for review,” sources said.
Security situation in Jammu and Kashmir especially the Valley is constantly being reviewed by the Union Home Ministry and Jammu and Kashmir Government and it has been well under control except occasional targeted killings.
The anti-militancy operations are in full swing in the Valley and number of militants including top commanders of various outfits have been eliminated or apprehended. Police and other security agencies are also targeting Over Ground Workers (OGWs) network in the Valley as well as Jammu region.
Recently, a high-level meeting was also held by the Union Home Ministry in New Delhi to discuss phased replacement of Army from some districts of Jammu and Kashmir and its replacement with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Progress on casting 360-degree security net in Jammu region as promised by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit here in the aftermath of Dhangri (Rajouri) carnage is also understood to have been discussed at the meeting.
Seven persons of minority community including two minors were killed and over a dozen others were injured in terror attack at Dhangri in Rajouri district on January 1. Two months have passed since the attack but perpetrators of the massacre are yet to be neutralized.
Apart from security scenario, the Home Ministry team had separate review with the administration on issues of Jammu and Kashmir taken up with the Home Ministry.
The Home Ministry team also had specific review of certain Departments with the administration.
Issue of recruitment also figured in a separate meeting.
The Home Ministry team is on a three-day visit to Jammu from February 28-March 2. It will return to New Delhi tomorrow and then submit its report to Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) and other Centrally Sponsored Schemes were also reviewed at a high-level meeting of the Home Ministry team with top officials of Jammu and Kashmir administration.
A number of projects are under execution under PMDP in Jammu and Kashmir besides various works are going on under different Centrally Sponsored Schemes. The works are progressing smoothly, they added.
