SRINAGAR, July 3: Maintaining that the MGNREGA has been responsible for changing socio-economic profile of the people living in rural and far-flung areas, the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Ali Mohammad Sagar has said that the scheme has also been instrumental in providing the much needed employment opportunities to people at their door steps besides creating the infrastructural assets.
The Minister was speaking at 10-day Orientation Course Programme organized by the Directorate of Rural Development for the newly recruited programme officers.
Commissioner/ Secretary Rural Development, Rural Development Farooq Ahmad Peer, Director Rural Development Mir Altaf Ahmad, Director Rural Sanitation Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Member/Secretary MGNREGA, Pawan Rathore and other senior officers of the Department besides experts from IMPA were also present.
Mr. Sagar said that the scheme has registered a phenomenal increase in its implementation since the last four years which has also been acknowledged at the national level. He said that it was due to the tireless efforts of the officers of rural development that its implementation has been accelerated, the results of which are visible on the ground level.
Referring to the accountability and transparency in the implementation of MGNREGA, the Minister said that a grievance redressal cell has been constituted to look into complaints, if any regarding the execution, so that a mechanism is ensured which would also provide the necessary feedback regarding the same. He said that necessary action has also been initiated against the officers/officials who have been found deviating from the set norms.
Farooq Ahmad Peer also spoke on the occasion and said that the institutional building would go long way in speeding up the implementation of this flagship programme. He said that the orientation programme would equip the new recruits with the intricacies and the guidelines about the execution of MGNREGA.
Director Rural Development also spoke on the occasion and gave an overview about the orientation course and MGNREGA.
