JAMMU, July 17: All J&K MGNREGA Employees Association of Jammu province has decided to extend its strike by six more days.
President of the Association, Sandeep Kalotra disclosed to the media that MGNREGA employees today entered the 9th consecutive day of peaceful protest/strike at different districts. Demanding suitable job policy, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) employees continued their peaceful protest.
Kalotra said Core Committee has now decided and announced the extension of their strike/protest for 6 days while the deadlock on negotiations between the Government and the protesting employees continues. MGNREGA employees continued their peaceful protest for the 9th consecutive day across the Jammu and Kashmir. They were demanding regularization of their jobs.
District president Jammu, Parvez Ahmed and prominent among other’s Satwant Singh and Rakesh Kumar , said they won’t let the Government play foul into calling off the strike without giving a written assurance. The employees said that since the launch of MGNREGA scheme in J&K in 2007, the State Government “has failed to frame out a draft policy of regularization for them.” Interestingly, two rounds of talks were held so far between MGNREGA employees and the Government which ended in a deadlock. The employees were demanding their regularization.
The employees exclaimed that they will again take to streets and resume the path of agitation. “We have put our demands so many times to the RDD higher authorities which have not been fulfilled till date. The Government is playing with the interests of youth and not paying any heed towards their demands and forcing them to take aggressive steps. Because of negligent approach, non-seriousness and indifferent attitude of Government leads to not fulfilling long pending genuine demands and urged the present Government to Fulfill the genuine demand as job policy.
Sandeep exclaimed that genuine demands of MGNREGA employees by the Government which is their absorption within Rural Development Department at different vacant nature of posts, despite of numerous assurance of MGNREG employees are working from last 12 years with full dedication.
