Met issues ‘orange’ warning of thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds in 5 districts on May 12

SHIMLA, May 8: The Shimla Met office on Friday issued an ‘orange’ warning of thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds (speed 40-50 kmph) at isolated places in five districts of Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Shimla on May 12.
It also predicted rain and snow in low, middle and high hills from May 11 as a fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from May 10.
Meanwhile, light rains occurred in isolated pockets in Himachal Pradesh, and Sarahan received 15.5 mm of rain followed by Rohru and Chopal 5 mm each, Kotkhai 3.1 mm while Kalpa, Sangla and Gondla received traces in the past 24 hours since Thursday evening.
Jubberhatti and Bhuntar were lashed by thunderstorms and lightning, the Shimla Met office said on Friday.
Tabo was the coldest at night, recording a low of 2.9 degrees Celsius, while Una was the hottest during the day with a high of 32.8 degrees Celsius.
During the ongoing pre-monsoon season from March 1 to May 8, Himachal Pradesh received 178.9 mm of rain against the normal rainfall of 195 mm, a deficit of eight per cent. (PTI)
