SRINAGAR Nov 5: Kashmir was lashed by rains while the weatherman forecasts heavy snowfall over the hills for next two days and light rain in the Valley.
Kashmir was lashed by intermittent rains today bringing down temperatures in the region.
The Meteorological department today forecast widespread rain and snow in Jammu and Kashmir on 6-7 November
“Widespread rain and snow is likely during 6-7 November in Kashmir and today weather will be generally cloudy at most places besides that rain/snow over higher reaches is very likely to commence from this evening,” the MeT office said.
“From 6-7th November, there are chances of moderate Rain/snow (over higher reaches) and very likely to occur at most places of J&K Plains of Kashmir, mainly South, likely to receive (2-3) inches of snowfall during 6-7th. Heavy Snowfall (2-3feet) very likely over higher reaches,” he said, adding that snowfall and low temperatures may led to temporary disruption of surface transportation, mainly over Zojila, Jmu-Srinagar HW, Sinthantop, Mugal Road etc. during 6-7th and it may damage orchards,” he said.
Prior to embark on journey, the official urged people to know status of road from Traffic Police to avoid inconveniences. He also said farmers are advised to harvest agriculture/horticulture produces which are vulnerable to snowfall and low temperature.

Meanwhile, Srinagar recorded a low of 5.6°C against 5.0°C the previous night. The temperature was 3.1°C above normal for this time of the year.
Qazigund recorded a low of 4.6°C against 3.6°C the previous night. The temperature was 2.1°C above normal for the town.
In Pahalgam, the mercury settled at 2.0°C against 1.3°C the previous night and it was 2.2°C above normal for resort.
Kokernag recorded a low of 6.3°C against 4.6°C the previous night and it was 2.5°C above normal for the place.
Gulmarg recorded a low of 0.5°C, the same as on the previous night and it was 1.2°C below normal for the skii resort in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
In Kupwara town, the mercury settled at 4.5°C against 4.6°C the previous night, the official said. It was 2.6°C above normal for the North Kashmir place.
