JAMMU, June 19: As the PDP-BJP Coalition Government continues to maintain criminal silence on the messy affairs of J&K Public Service Commission, opposition Congress and some student organizations have intensified attack on JKPSC and sought immediate intervention of Governor N N Vohra in the matter to ensure an independent, impartial and transparent probe into functioning of the Commission.
In a joint statement, senior PCC leaders Sham Lal Sharma, Raman Bhalla, Mula Ram, Kanta Bhan, Ravinder Sharma, Shabir Ahmed Khan, Manjeet Singh, Ch Shah Mohd, Vikram Malhotra, Manmohan Singh and Namrata Sharma have severely criticized the State Government for maintaining criminal silence over the allegations of large scale irregularities and illegalities being highlighted by the various sections of the society through the media during past quite sometimes and all such allegations and apprehensions have remained un-rebutted.
“The recent disclosers of alleged tempering and forgery duely authenticated by the FSL have prima facie established the commission of offence and the silence and inaction to lodge FIR by the Commission speaks volumes about its functioning. There is large scale resentment amongst all concerned citizens who are interested in the fairness, transparency and accountability of the institution of PSC, which deals with the career of the youth of the State who put in their hard labour but feel frustrated by such reports of bungling in the functioning of the commission,” the Congress leaders said.
They demanded that FIR should be immediately lodged and taken to logical conclusion at the earliest and probe should be ordered into all such allegations in the recent past besides removal of such of the guilty members or officials found involved who should be booked under law, to established the credibility and ensure the functioning of the Commission as per spirit of law and the constitution.
Meanwhile, National Secular Forum (NSF) has demanded independent audit of selections made by the JKPSC in the light of glaring instances of biased approach towards candidates from Jammu.
Addressing a press-conference, here today, NSF State president Dr Vikas Sharma alleged that blue eyed candidates were being recruited by the PSC at the instance of State Government causing resentment among the unemployed educated youth. He flayed the PDP-BJP Coalition Government for meting step-motherly treatment to the people of Jammu. He particularly took BJP MLAs to task for maintaining stoic silence on the issue and reiterated demand for statehood to Jammu as permanent solution to end this discrimination.
Dr Vikas appealed the Governor to intervene Under Section 130 of State Constitution and initiate action against the Chairman and other Members of the PSC in consonance with the powers vested in him under the State Constitution. Seeking a reference by the Governor to the High Court as provided in Section 130 (1) against the conduct of PSC Members, Sharma said that not only were the allegations of nepotism, favoritism, regional bias, and corruption leveled by various quarters against the PSC but there were further serious charges of irregularities including those of tempering of answer keys.
National Panthers Students Union (NPSU) has also demanded immediate removal of Chairman JKPSC and CBI inquiry into the faulty selection procedure adopted by the Commission.
Launching a scathing attack on JKPSC for brazenly indulging large scale bungling, corruption, nepotism and regional prejudice in selection to Government services, besides wrong doing in conducing examinations for various Gazetted posts, a number of NPSU activists, headed by Th Virender Singh, held a protest demonstration at Jammu University. The agitating students also torched an effigy of the PSC Chairman.
Shouting slogans, they were demanding immediate removal of the PSC Chairman and registration of FIR against the Chairman for tempering policy document.
While addressing the gathering, Mr Singh alleged large scale irregularities in PSC for selection of candidates from a particular region by ignoring Jammu candidates. He urged the State Government to register FIR against the Chairman PSC for tempering of policy documents and a high level probe into recent selections made by J&K PSC for various posts, especially KAS/Accounts and Assistant Professors.
The NPSU leader also questioned the silence of BJP MLAs, who, he alleged have surrendered before Kashmir for the lust of power.
Singh urged the civil society, Bar Association Jammu, Chamber of Commerce and transporters of Jammu to support the struggle against discrimination with Jammu youth.
