Sir,
We are fortunate that a legend of singing and golden voice, Kundan Lal Sehgal was born in Jammu. If the younger generation has not been adequately made familiar with the doyen of music , the Late Sehgal , the fault lies with the people of yester years. There appears to be no sign of remembrance excepting a small hall in the premises of the Abhinav Theatre in the city and a small memorial for the name sake in the mohella where this great singer had been born. That memorial instead of enticing any interest is a sight of our utmost neglect and apathy as neither it looks like a memorial nor is it kept clean and presentable .Besides school children, college students are never taken there to explain about this legendry singer and thus feel proud about this singer who in his days had mesmerized his fans with his golden voice and even with his acting in many movies. “So ja rajkumari so ja” “jab dil hi toot gaya”, and many Gazals, Bhajans, songs etc are still remembered and enjoyed by his fans. We should erect a grand memorial in his honour and in honour of the rich classical music of our country. At least on the legend’s 110th birth day , let us devise ways to make him known among the youngsters of the state and the city where he was born.
Yours etc…
