NEW DELHI: The treasury bench and opposition Congress and DMK members clashed
fiercely in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday as soon as the House took up for consideration and passing the statutory resolution and relevant bills on Jammu and Kashmir.
During exchange of words repeatedly between two sides, Home Minister Amit Shah asserted that to his party and the government of India – any reference to ‘Jammu and Kashmir’ automatically included Pakistan Occupied Kashmir and Askai Chin.
His observation came shortly after Congress floor Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury repeatedly wanted to know whether the government was competent to bring such resolution and Bills concerning the state unilaterally when time and again the government has been stating that Jammu and Kashmir is a ‘bilateral’ issue between India and Pakistan.
Moreover, Mr Chowdury said a reference was made to the United Nations about Kashmir way back in 1949.
“I am only seeking a clarification….My entire Congress party wants to be enlightened,” Mr Chowdhury said in presence of Congress president Rahul Gandhi and senior leader Sonia Gandhi.
“There were two agreements one signed in Shimla and the other in Lahore….,” Mr Chowdhury said.
At one point of time, Home Minister challenged the Congress leader to clarify whether his party supports the argument that Kashmir dispute should be dealt by the United Nations.
T R Baalu of DMK said an atmosphere of undeclared emergency prevailed in Jammu and Kashmir and top state leaders have been arrested and no body knew where they are.
“Where is my friend Dr Farooq Abdullah, who is a member of the House?,” Mr Baalu asked.
