JAMMU, May 20: A major blow has been inflicted to drugs trafficking cartel with the arrested of one of its member along with large quantity of cannabis by Gandhi Nagar Police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’.
As per police sources, on specific information about drugs smuggling, a team from Gandhi Nagar Police Station raised a checking point near Valmiki Chowk.
During frisking, cops signaled a Maruti car bearing registration number JK02Q-2754, which was coming from Bahu Plaza towards Green Belt side of the Gandhi Nagar to stop for checking, but the driver accelerated the vehicle and escaped from the spot.
Being suspicious, the cops intercepted the vehicle after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered 1.200 kilograms of cannabis from the vehicle and arrested the driver, who happens to be a notorious drugs trafficker.
The arrested accused has been identified as Sohan Lal, son of Shanker Dass, a resident of Dabhditta Jhiri, Tehsil Marh, District Jammu.
The accused used to supply the seized consignment among the youth in his native and adjoining areas. With his arrest, drugs traffickers received a major jolt viz police saved the youth from becoming drug addicts.
A case under FIR Number 117/18 under Section 8/20 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Gandhi Nagar Police Station and investigation started to ascertain the source of the consignment.
Police team led by SHO Gandhi Nagar Inspector Sunil Singh Jasrotia and assisted by ASI Shesh Pal made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas, SP South Sandeep Choudhary and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
