Mehbooba visits earthquake affected areas

DODA, May 7: Criticizing State Government for its failure to provide relief to the people of Chenab Valley after May 1 earthquake, president of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti today demanded that inhabitants of Doda and Kishtwar should be given relief on the pattern of the Uri and Tangdar areas.
Mehbooba Mufti, who visited earthquake affected areas of Bhaderwah today, lambasted the State Government for adopting causal approach while dealing with disaster and natural calamities. PDP president visited number of houses which were damaged and developed cracks after the devastating earthquake that rocked this region on May 1, 2013.
“The fear stricken residents of Bhaderwah are facing hardships, due to non availability of relief and failure of the authorities to start proper rehabilitation but the Government is not concerned about woes of the people”, she regretted and added that a large number of houses were unsafe for the people due to development of cracks but the Government was unmoved by such devastation and no step has been taken to provide safe shelters to the affected people.
She was accompanied by Deputy Speaker Mohammad Sartaj Madni, MLA Peerzada Mansoor Hussain and PDP leader Mehboob Iqbal.
PDP president said that education sector suffered immensely in the earthquake and study of the students was badly affecting because most of the school buildings were declared unsafe. “As the academic session is going on, there is a need to take some alternative ways to ensure that students should not suffer any more”, she added.
PDP president, who reached Bhaderwah this afternoon, would also visit Bhallesa, Thathri, Kishtwar and Doda areas tomorrow to asses the situation. She interacted with large number of people at Bhaderwah.
