People demand special package for KU North campus; town de congestion, beautification, Rafiabad on tourist map
Baramulla: Taking her public outreach programme further, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti today visited Baramulla to convene a public grievances redressal camp here in which scores of deputations and hundreds of people from the district apprised her of their problems.
Minister for Technical Education, Youth Services & Sports, Moulvi Imran Raza Ansari; legislators, Javed Hussain Beigh; Muhammad Abbas Wani and Yawar Dillawar Mir were present on the occasion.
The deputations in general thanked the Chief Minister for coming to their place which has been neglected by the successive regimes and listening to their grievances and problems.
A deputation of Greater Baramulla Forum sought extension of municipal limits of the town, construction of youth hostel, sewerage treatment plant and solid waste management facility for the town besides pacing up work on the Football Academy at Ushkoora. They also demanded devising a scheme for meeting the drinking water needs of the town besides a bus terminal, declaring the town as forest city and proper utilisation of old hospital premises.
Another deputation of civil society members sought pacing up of work on Baramulla Medical College, creation of parking slots and rest rooms in the centre of the town. They also sought beautification of Jhelum banks in the town, decongestion of the old town, proper maintenance of parks and creation of circular roads and widening of roads to overcome frequent traffic jams.
A deputation of Baramulla College Alumini Association demanded a special package for making the North Campus of Kashmir University vibrant. They also demanded grant of autonomous status to Baramulla Degree College, given its high rating by the UGC. The deputation also demanded setting up of an exclusive college for Earth Sciences at Uri or a college for metallurgy at Kupwara.
A deputation of residents of old town, Baramulla sought setting up of a housing colony for the residents, round the clock operationalization of health centre at Bagh i Islam besides construction of community halls in the main town. They also sought improvement of power cables in the town, drug de addiction and cleaning of flood nallahs in old town.
Several deputations from Rafiabad demanded setting up of a health centre and playfield at Achabal besides widening of roads in the area. They also sought an ambulance for the Dangiwachi medical block and establishment of a cold store at Behrampora. Augmentation of grid stations at Watergam, Hadipora, Achabal and Nowpora besides projection of Kiterdajji and Bosian on the tourist map of the State were also demanded.
A deputation of girl students from Sopore sought upgradation of local library, extension of scooty scheme to the area, sports facility and coaching camps for competitive examinations for the youth of the town. Appreciating the demands, the Chief Minister instantly directed release of Rs. 10 lakh for buying books for the Sopore library.
Another deputation from the town sought setting up of a nursing college, augmentation of drinking water facility and solid waste management for the town. Another deputation sought strengthening of educational infrastructure in the town.
Mehbooba Mufti directed identification of land for construction of sports stadium, announced two buses for the boys and girls colleges and development of public park at the available space.
Deputations from Boniyar sought establishment of a JK Bank branch at Trikanjan, development of road from Bela to Gabevar connecting it to Vij tourist spot besides setting up of a tehsil Social Welfare office. They also demanded a fire station at Boniyar, construction of Foot Bridge at Noushehra over river Jhelum, opening up of JK Bank branch at Noushehra and irrigation facilities for the area.
A deputation of Gurdwara Prabandak Committee, Baramulla sought special dispensation in employment for the candidates belonging to Sikh community and macdamisation of road to Gurdwara Chatti Padshahi, Baramulla.
A group of students from the Blind School, Kanispora sought more facilities for the students. The Chief Minister directed the Deputy Commissioner to pursue the case of establishment of the school within its own compound.
Many deputations from Pattan demanded completion of work on the Trauma hospital, measures to overcome frequent traffic jams, creation of a special engineering sub division and completion of Aglar Wusan water supply scheme.
Deputations from Tilgam, Tapper, Wanigam, Nehalpora, Buran and Sirpora areas sought more irrigation facilities for the orchards in the area besides augmentation of Tilgam receiving station and upgradation of local high school to a higher secondary school.
A deputation from Tangmarg sought protection bunds on Ferozpora nallah besides strengthening power infra and setting up a girls college in the area. The Chief Minister directed release of Rs. 15 lakh for strengthening power infrastructure in the area.
A deputation from Kreeri thanked the Chief Minister for her efforts to develop all areas of the State. They also invited her to visit their area. Another deputation from Upper Kandi, Sangrama demanded strengthening of PHC, Dudhbugh and upgradation of school at Sultanpora besides establishment of a playfield at Bangi Bala. They also invited her to visit their area.
Deputations from Kamalkote, Uri; Sangrama; Zehanpore; Tujjar Sharief; Noushehra; Narwaw and other areas also met the Chief Minister and put up their demands and sought their redressal.
The Chief Minister listened to the demands of the deptations throughout the day and assured to look into them. In many of the cases Mehbooba Mufti gave on spot directions of the redressal of the grievances which was hailed by the deputationists.
During her overnight stay here, the Chief Minister would be visiting Sopore tomorrow to inaugurate a Currency Chest of JK Bank there besides meeting people and listening to their problems.
Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Rohit Kansal; senior officers from the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and Planning Department; heads of several Departments; Chiefs of many Engineering wings; Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Nasir Naqash; SSP, Imtiyaz Hussain and officers of District administration were present on the occasion.
It may be recalled here that the public outreach programme launched by the Chief Minister has evoked an interesting response from the public who come up with their problems for an on the spot redressal. Started from Pulwama, the public outreach programmes were conducted by the Chief Minister at Kupwara, Budgam and Ramban during which hundreds of people apprised her about their problems and difficulties.
