Mehbooba unopposed re-elected PDP president for sixth term

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday was unanimously re-elected as president of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.
The election for the post of the PDP president was held here on Saturday afternoon at party office, said a spokesman.
He said, “Ms Mehbooba Mufti was re-elected for the sixth term in a row,” party sources said. The PDP was headed and founded by late chief minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed in 1999.
Ms Mufti, 58, a law graduate from the University of Kashmir, joined politics in 1996 when she was elected from Bijbehara Assembly seat on Congress ticket.
After her father’s death in January 2016, when he was heading the coalition government in the state, she took forward the same alliance with BJP. On April 4, 2016, she took the oath and became the first woman chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir. (AGENCIES)
