Mehbooba goes tough on Health Deptt, orders attachment of DHS

JAMMU, Dec 23: Going tough on Health and Medical Education Department, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today ordered attachment of Director Health Services, Dr Gurjeet Singh after receiving complaints about poor conditions of health sector during her ‘Public Outreach Programme’ in District Rajouri while protests from own PDP workers greeted Mehbooba at the venue of her meetings with the delegations.
Sources said Mehbooba Mufti ordered attachment of the Director Health Services after receiving complaints from the people about “poor state of affairs” in the Health Department.
Dr Gurjeet Singh has been attached with the Administrative Department with immediate effect till further orders while Dr Samir Mattoo, Incharge Director, Family Welfare, MCH and Immunization, will look after charge of the Director Health Services, in addition to his own duties till further orders.

An order to this effect was issued today by Principal Secretary, Health and Medical Education Dr Pawan Kotwal.
Sources said Dr Gurjeet Singh wasn’t present at Rajouri during the Chief Minister’s `Public Outreach Programme’, which was another reason for his attachment. Dr Singh had gone to Bani along with Health and Medical Education Minister Bali Bhagat.
Few days back, Mehbooba Mufti had ordered suspension of Government Medical College (GMC) Medical Superintendent Dr Dara Singh after undertaking surprise visit of the hospital.
Meanwhile, a piquant situation erupted at Dak Bungalow, Rajouri, the venue of the Chief Minister’s ‘Public Outreach Programme’ when some PDP workers raised slogans against the administration for not allowing them to meet with Mehbooba.
The protesters raised slogans against the administration for few minutes till they were pacified by the PDP leaders and administration.
The protesters lamented that the people from another constituency were being given preference over Rajouri segment in meeting with Mehbooba Mufti. They described it as “deliberate neglect” of Rajouri people by the administration at the “cost of another constituency”.
However, the protesters were pacified by the PDP leaders and district administration within few minutes and all the people were assured meeting with the Chief Minister, whose meetings with locals continued till late tonight.
In all, she met around 102 delegations drawn from all walks of life and all areas including far off from the border district of Rajouri.
Some of the delegation members told the Excelsior after meeting the Chief Minister that they raised demands for construction of bunkers along LoC, both by the Centre and State Governments, clearance of large number of pending cases of old-age, widow and other pensions, mobile connectivity for border villages, checking alarming level of rising pollution to make Rajouri green city, construction of five mini parks, expediting work on roads being constructed under PMGSY and other Schemes, up -gradation of schools and health institutions, equipment health centres with latest equipments and providing doctors and para-medical staff and ensuring regular supply of water and power among other issues.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti today directed immediate clearance of pendency of SRO-43 cases in the district.
As a first instalment, she today disbursed cash compensation among 20 and appointment orders among two kin of the persons, who were killed in various militancy-related incidents in the district.
Those among whom Mehbooba Mufti issued appointment orders included Mohammad Altaf s/o Mohammad Ismail of Choudhary Naar, Rajouri and Mohammad Arif s/o Abdul Rehman of Kote Dhara, Rajouri.
Those who received cash compensation of Rs. 4 lakh each at the hands of Chief Minister included Razia Begum of Keri Teryath, Rama Devi of Seiya, Noor Akhtar of Jigni, Raqia Begum of Kothian, Kalakote, Satya Devi of Sair, Munir Hussain of Thanamandi, Hamshira Begum of Ghambir Muglan, Babu Khan of Nagrota, Gulshan Kumar of Patrara, Joginder Paul of Mangote, Zebo Begum of Thanamandi, Abdul Aziz of Kote Dhara, Sarfaraz Ahmad of Azmatabad, Noor Hussain of Choudhary Naar, Alam Bi of Khoriwali, Sakeena Bi of Panihad, Mir Hussain of Fatehpur,  Nisar Hussain of Fatehpur, Mohammad Azmeer of Panjgraih and Mohammad Shafiq of Bhatian.
According to Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, in all there were 72 cases of SRO-43 from the district pending with the Government for more than 20 years and with the instructions of the Chief Minister, compensation in respect of 22 cases was disbursed today. In respect of remaining 50 cases, he said, compensation would be released next week and there would be zero pendency of SRO-43 cases in the district.
