GANDERBAL, Mar 7: Extending further the benefits of CM Scooty Scheme, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti today distributed scooties among 50 meritorious girl students of the district here.
Addressing the students on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the aim of launching the scheme is to provide better mobility to girl students so that they can chase their dreams in a better way and without any difficulty. She hoped the scheme would instill confidence among the girl students and they can concentrate better on studies and bring laurels to their parents and society.
Mehbooba Mufti said keeping the same objective in mind, her Government ordered the start of a ladies bus service in the capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu for the convenience of women commuters and possibilities would be explored to extend the service to other districts as well.
The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction over the successful execution of the scheme and advised the students who got the scooties today to use the same while observing proper traffic norms. She said she was happy today that girl students from Ganderbal have joined this scheme which would give them a logistic and psychological advantage in their lives.
The scheme, it may be recalled, was launched by the Chief Minister in September last year and so far 1100 girl students from different colleges of the State have been covered under it. Under the scheme, 50% subsidy is provided by the Government to meritorious girl students for buying scooties.
Earlier in his address, Minister for Education, Syed Altaf Bukhari thanked the Chief Minister for taking keen interest in the education sector, particularly education of girls in the State. He said the department would strive to improve the standards of education in the State to make it comparable with the best in the country.
Minister for PWD, Naeem Akhtar; MLA, Ganderbal, Ishfaq Jabbar; former Minister, Qazi Afzal; Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan; IGP, Kashmir zone, SJM Gillani, officers of district administration, students of the college and a large number of people were present on the occasion.
