JAMMU, Mar 14: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today alleged that Mehbooba Mufti has time and again confessed her role in promoting pro-Pakistan separatist agenda while she was the Chief Minister of the State and betrayed the oath of loyalty and secrecy she had taken at the time of swearing in.
“While in Jammu she was busy playing divisive and communal politics by attempting to break centuries old brotherhood, bonding and bonhomie between the Gujjars and Dogras and in Kashmir she was relentlessly working for Jamat-e-Islami Kashmir (JeIK) and pursuing the agenda laid down by Hurriyat. It was for this reason that she held the Home portfolio herself and did not even have a MOS despite the State being infested with terrorism,” stated Brig (retd) Anil Gupta, State spokesperson of BJP.
JeIK ever since its inception has been promoting a pro-Pak agenda and questioning State’s accession with India. It is also responsible for encouraging separatism and terrorism with Hizbul Mujahdin (HM) as its armed militant wing. JeIK is a fascist-religious organisation which proudly proclaimed “Azadi Barai Islam” (Freedom for Islam) as its motto on its website. Mehbooba has herself confessed that she did not act against the JeIK leaders despite the instructions from Centre based on intelligence inputs about their involvement in anti-national activities. While she was wearing the mask of a nationalist and occupied the highest chair in Government, she actually was betraying the nation by carrying out anti-national activities and compromising the national interests, alleged Brig Gupta.
The BJP leader demanded that a thorough investigation should be held of her role as a CM and the harm she has done to the nation. Based on the findings of the investigation, she should be tried for treason. “If a leader like late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah can be tried for treason, what prevents a similar action against Mehbooba Mufti when she herself has confessed that she obstructed the Central Government from acting against the Hurriyat and JeIK?” stated Brig Gupta.
As far as her repeated statements boasting of preventing BJP Government at Centre from acting against the Hurriyat and Jammat and forcing the release of first time stone-pelters and cessation of military operations during Ramzan, Brig Gupta said that it was a clear-cut case of betrayal of faith imposed in her by the Central Government as the CM of the State. When it became obvious that she was playing a double-game no time was lost by BJP in withdrawing from the coalition. Most of her senior party colleagues were also surprised by her dual face and deserted her soon thereafter claimed Brig Gupta.
He said Mehbooba’s role in the assassination of Journalist Sujaat Bukhari also needs to be investigated as he reportedly met her a couple of days earlier and apprised her of the threat to his life.
