Mehandi procession taken out on 7th Muhram

JAMMU, Nov 21: On the occasion of seventh Muhram the Mehandi procession was taken out by the members of Shia community in memory of Shazada Qasim.
Thousands of Shia, mourners including men, women and children wailing and beating their breasts participated in the procession which started from the residence of late Mazhar Ali Shah at Janipur.
Reciting Nowha the procession passed via Tali Morh and it stopped at New Plots Imambara where the scholars gave lectures on the significance of the day. The procession culminated at Imambara Peer Mitha late in the evening. The procession passed via Ambphalla, Ustad Mohalla, Peer Mitha CPO, Link road before its culmination at Imambara.
Addressing the gathering at Imambara New Plots earlier Moulana Zagam Ali threw light on the significance of Muhram in Islam and sacrifices made by Sahazada Qasim and Imam-e-Hassan who set an example for others to follow.
He also threw light on the importance of Mehandi procession and stressed on maintenance of peace and communal amity at all costs. The Islam believes in peace and brotherhood and it has always fought against the oppressors and stood for the weak.
He said India is a great country and Muslims are more safe here than in any other country.
The organizations, which participated in today’s procession included Anjuman-e-Imamia Jammu, Anjuman-e-Hydari New Plots, Anjaman-e-Bhatindi, Shia Federation led by Ashiq Hussian and its spokesman Fida Hussian, Ladakh Kargil Shia Students Association and members of Shia community from Poonch and Rajouri.
The authorities had also made elaborate arrangements and traffic was also diverted from other routes to avert the traffic jam during the time of procession.
