Srinagar, Aug 24: In order to prevent frequent traffic jams in Anantnag town in South Kashmir, the District Administration Anantnag has declared the stretch from Mehandi Kadal to Janglat Mandi as ‘No Parking Zone’ along with taking several other measures aiming at ensuring free flow of the traffic.
In this regard, the officials told Excelsior that in order to streamline the traffic and to prevent traffic jams in Anantnag town, several measures have been taken which include the construction of Multi-Level Car Parking at Janglat Mandi.
Also, the officials said, a complete ban has been imposed on the parking of vehicles on the roadside particularly from Khanabal chowk to Jangalat Mandi Anantnag keeping in view the frequent traffic jams on the roads in the town.
Officials said that despite the measures that have been taken so far by the administration, it has been noticed that private cars of shopkeepers and shoppers are parked alongside the road from Mehandi Kadal to Ashajipora leading to avoidable traffic jams.
“The road is one of the busiest roads as it leads to two leading government hospitals (District Hospital & M&CC Hospital), thus ensuring smooth traffic is not only a topmost priority but the utmost urgency,” the officials said, adding that ambulances carrying critical patients have been often seen stuck in the traffic jam.
The district officials said that accordingly, in order to avoid traffic jams and save precious lives, the road leading from Mehandi Kadal to Jangalat Mandi has been declared as ‘No Parking Zone’ with immediate effect.
Officials said that any violation with regard to the directives that have been passed will attract seizure of vehicles including the two-wheelers without any further notice coupled with a heavy fine.
“In this regard, the Senior Superintendent of Police and Dy. S.P Traffic have been directed to ensure implementation of the directives in letter and spirit in order to avoid jamming of the road which is causing immense trouble to the locals,” the officials said.
