SRINAGAR, Feb 17: A 3-day mega rehabilitation camp for persons with disabilities that started on 16th February is underway at Showkat Ali Stadium in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district. The camp is being organised by Composite Regional Centre Srinagar in collaboration with District Administration Baramulla.
An official spokesman said that yesterday, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Thawaarchand Gehlot distributed free appliances and aids among the persons with disabilities.
“The Union Minister was the chief guest during the function. MoS for Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, Krishna Pal Gurjar was the Guest of Honour, while as MLA Baramulla, Javed Hussan Beigh and MLA Gulmarg, Mohammad Abbass Wani attended the mega-camp. The Joint Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with disabilities, Awanish K. Awasthi, District Development Commissioner, Yasha Mudgal, Director Social Welfare, Hashmat Ali Yattoo, senior BJP leader Muhammad Anwar Khan and other officers were also present during the function,” he said.
Highlighting the schemes launched by the Union Government for the welfare of People with disabilities, Thawaarchand Gehlot, during his speech mentioned the fact that the initiative for providing disabled cards to persons with different abilities for proving them all sorts of benefits will be sooner taken up.
While mentioning the importance of such camps, Thawaarchand Gehlot said, “Such camps not only serve as an important source of awareness for the people, but it also ensures transparency and fairness.” The Minister mentioned that various camps have been so far conducted across the country since last 21 months and about 3,75,000 persons have been provided appliance before today’s camp. Thawaarchand Gehlot also highlighted the fact that every detail about the beneficiaries that have been provided appliances and aids during the Camps has been kept available on the Website of the ministry of social Justice and Empowerment.
The Minister also mentioned that the Government is providing pre-matric, post-matric scholarships besides scholarships for studying abroad or for achieving professional degrees to differently abled students.
