JAMMU, Feb 17: The Crime Branch, Jammu today organized a symposium on “Combating Cyber Crime-Exigency of the hour” at Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar in which large number of college students, officers of the Crime Branch, Jammu and staff members of the college participated.
Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the college was the chief guest whereas, Munir Ahmed Khan, Inspector General of Police, State Crime Branch, J&K was the guest of honour.
The programme stared with a formal welcome address presented by Rajesh Bakshi, CPO Crime Branch, Jammu, presentation of bouquets and traditional lightening of the lamp by the dignitaries. Around 12 speakers from different streams of the college spoke on the topic which was judged by Prof Shruti Sharma, Prof Seema Mir and Prof Naveen Anand.
A special lecture through power point presentation was delivered by Mubassir Latifi, SSP Crime Branch Jammu on various aspects of the cyber crimes and their detections and preventions.
It was forcibly emphasized by Latifi that females are the worst hit by the menace of the fast growing cyber frauds, as such, every endeavour should be made to protect their identity and they should not share their photographs/videos with any one in order to prevent and save themselves from the cyber vultures hovering over their profiles.
A brief question answer session was also held in which certain queries were answered by the SSP.
Kiran Bakshi Principal of the college while expressing her views also highlighted the importance of acquisition of the knowledge about the emerging cyber crimes and laid emphasis on the students not to fell prey to the nefarious designs of the cyber criminals. She appreciated the efforts of the Crime Branch in organizing such a programme which was virtually the need of the hour as certain vital issue came forth during the course of discussions which had utmost bearing particularly on the future of the girl students of the college.
Out of the 12 speakers, first, second and third positions were secured by Shivika Thakur, Seerat and Afshan Farooq who were awarded trophies and certificates.
Cash reward of Rs. 10,000, Rs. 7000 and Rs. 5000 to the position holders were also awarded by the chief guest and SSP Crime Branch, Jammu, which were specially announced on the spot by IGP State Crime Branch, Jammu. Mementos were also presented to Prof. Shruti Sharma, Prof Seema Mir and Prof Naveen Anand, who acted as judges.
Certificates and mementoes were also presented to all the participants who spoke on the occasion besides two mementos along with cash reward of Rs. 2000 each was also awarded to Ms. Namrata and Ms Ritu who anchored the programme.
A special memento was also presented on the occasion by SSP Crime Branch to the chief guest Kiran Bakshi as a token of gratitude on behalf of the Crime Branch, Jammu.
The programme in the end culminated with a formal vote of thanks presented by M A Almansoor, Senior Prosecutor of the Crime Branch, Jammu.
