Outward movement sans passes, emergency banned at Lakhanpur

JAMMU, July 22: A MBBS student and two Nurses from Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu and Accident Hospital Vijaypur, an Axis Bank staffer in Samba, three members of a Kishtwar family, a police constable deployed on guard duty at quarantine centre at Surankote, three pregnant women in Udhampur and over 15 para-military and police personnel were among 57 persons who tested positive for COVID-19 today while 37 patients were treated and discharged from various hospitals.
A second year MBBS student of the GMC Jammu, an inhabitant of Sainik Colony, has tested positive for the virus while report of his parents who were mild symptomatic, was awaited, doctors said, adding a Senior Staff Nurse of the GMC Jammu who hailed from Bhaderwah in Doda district has also reported positive.
Three members of a family from Cherhar in Kishtwar including a couple and their daughter, tested Corona positive in Jammu on their return here by air.
GMC Medical Superintendent Dr Dara Singh told the Excelsior that the MBBS student, Staff Nurse and three of Kishtwar family have been admitted in the GMC and their condition is stable though they are mild symptomatic.
A 49-year-old Staff Nurse of Accident Hospital Vijaypur who is a resident of Sector-B Nanak Nagar and 28-year-old youth from Garh Mandi Samba who was posted at Axis Bank in Vijaypur have also reported positive for COVID-19 in Samba district, SSP Samba Shakti Pathak said.
Two other positives of Samba district were a 19-year-old youth from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh and 38-year-old man from Darbanga, Bihar who had come here for work.
Ten security men, mostly CRPF and JKP personnel, reported positive in Jammu district.
Other positives of Jammu district include two youth aged 28 and 26 from Jhiri Kanachak, 37-year-old and 57-year-old men from Bhatindi, a middle-aged man from Bishnah who was tested ahead of surgery in the GMC Jammu, a youth from Gangyal, 52-year-old man from Muthi, 40-year-old from Channi Rama, 35-year-old from Purkhoo, an elderly person from Bishnah, 38-year-old from Talab Tillo, a youth each from Jhajjar Kotli and Akhnoor, 36-year-old from Domana a A youth and a middle-aged man from Karan Bagh Gadigarh, elderly person from Govindpura and 45-year-old from Krishna Nagar.
A total of 30 persons today tested Corona positive in Jammu district and four in Samba district.
Accident Hospital in Vijaypur has been closed for two days for sanitization and contact tracing of the Staff Nurse for sampling. The Axis Bank at Vijaypur has been contained for similar purposes.
The district administration Kathua has banned outward movement from Lakhanpur in view of heavy rush of the people. Only people with medical emergencies and those having movement passes issued by the Divisional Commissioner Jammu will be allowed to leave Lakhanpur for other States.
District Magistrate Kathua OP Bhagat said the decision has been taken as people were thronging Lakhanpur in large numbers for traveling to Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and New Delhi without any emergency.
“Now onwards only people having medical emergencies are those with travel passes issued by the Divisional Commissioner Jammu will be allowed to leave Lakhanpur,” Bhagat said, adding this will ease rush at Lakhanpur where a number of Corona positive cases have been reported including the security personnel on duty.
Those entering Jammu and Kashmir are already being subjected to administrative quarantine.
The district administration of Ramban has, meanwhile, suspended construction work of Northern Railways and National Highway-44 within Ramban district after spike in COVID positive cases among workers of the construction companies of Railways and Highway.
An order issued by District Magistrate Ramban Nazim Zai Khan has asked the companies to submit lift of employees/labourers for sampling for COVID-19.
It may be mentioned here that number of workers of the construction companies had reported positive for the virus recently.
District Magistrate Samba Rohit Khajuria today imposed complete lockdown in Samba, Ghagwal and Bari Brahamna tehsils except areas falling within Industries Complexes of district Samba from July 23-26 in view of increase in COVID cases.
Vijaypur tehsil is already under lockdown.
The DM’s order said essential services like doctors’ clinics, chemist, homeopathy, Ayurvedic shops and testing laboratories will remain open from 9 am to 8 pm and grocery, milk, bakery, fruit and vegetable shops from 7 am to 12 noon.
Meanwhile, three pregnant women were among seven persons who tested positive for COVID-19 in Udhampur district today, District Magistrate Dr Piyush Singla told the Excelsior.
The pregnant women were sampled ahead of deliveries. They jailed from Near Forest Office, Roun Domail and Malhar. Another woman from Kallar who was contact of a positive person has also been infected by the virus.
Three other positives of Udhampur district include a CRPF personnel, a youth from Domail who had travel history of Kannour and was under administrative quarantine and a Bihari.
Six persons reported Corona positive in Doda district today including three shopkeepers from Thathri who were sampled during random testing. Two of them hailed from Figsoo and another from Tipri, Thathri. A 13-year-old girl and two youths aged 28 and 29 from Dalaiyan Bhaderwah also tested positive today. They were contacts of an already positive person.
Thathri market has been closed after three positive cases.
Four Indian Reserve Police (IRP) personnel of 6th battalion posted at Surankote today reported Corona positive in Poonch district.
SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral said three positive IRP personnel had travel history of Srinagar, Anantnag and Pulwama in Kashmir while fourth one was on guard duty at quarantine centre in Government High School Marhote.
Five persons including one jawan each of BSF and CISF today tested positive for the virus in Kathua district.
Three other positives of Kathua district were two workers who were under administrative quarantine and a contact of positive person of Ward No. 14.
A 42-year-old woman from Ward No. 7 was lone Corona positive case in Reasi district today. She had come in contact of a positive person and was under administrative quarantine at Talwara.
Kishtwar, Ramban and Rajouri districts today didn’t report any Corona positive cases.
With today’s positives, Jammu region now has total of 3234 Corona cases including 1341 active cases as 1873 patients have recovered from the virus while there have been 20 casualties.
Thirty seven Corona patients were today treated and discharged from various COVID hospitals including 19 from Jammu district, seven from Kathua, six Ramban and five Poonch.
Six patients were today treated and discharged from the Chest Diseases Hospital, Bakshi Nagar, Medical Superintendent Dr Rajeshwar Sharma said.
Meanwhile, eight more Corona positive cases were today reported from the Union Territory of Ladakh, all in Leh district taking Corona cases in the UT to 1206 including 467 in Leh and 739 in Kargil and active cases to 186—156 in Leh and 30 in Kargil.
As many as 1018 patients have recovered in Ladakh while there have been two Corona casualties.
