JAMMU, Sept 1: Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) along with Inder Singh Sudan, councilor of Ward No.44 today conducted an extensive tour in the various localities of Sector No 12 and its adjoining areas of the Ward and met with the residents of the ward to take the stock of the situation arisen due to incessant rains during the last few days. Manmohan Singh, Amrik Singh, Randeep Singh, Amarjeet Singh, Joginder Singh and other prominent inhabitants of the area were also present there and they drew attention of the Mayor towards damage caused to their houses, property as well as drains, lanes and roads due to overflowing the nallahs flowing in Sector12 Nanak Nagar and adjoining areas. They further informed the Mayor that residents especially children and senior citizens have been facing great hardships while passing through the lanes during their routine work.
Mayor assured the councilor as well as locals that JMC is committed to provide best possible amenities in terms of development, sanitization to the people of Jammu city and it has taken up the job of disilting all the nallahs of Jammu since February this year but most of the nallahs which were earlier 50 feet wide have now been made narrow and left with width of only five feet to 10 feet approximately as they have been encroached by the habitual encroachers and it is also one of the reasons of over flowing of nallahs during the rainy season.
He further said that Jammu city which was established since 50 -70 years back lacks proper urban planning and drainage system like other cities such as Chandigarh, Surat etc and he is personally working to take up the issue for modernization of drains and proper planning of the city with the higher ups and removal of encroachments of the nallahs strictly so that citizens of Jammu may get relief from this menace of flood type situation on permanent basis. He also appealed to the general public not to throw polythenes, garbage etc in the public drains and nallahs besides remove the encroachments at their own level to avoid any type of mishappenings and damage to the life and property during the rainy season.
