SRINAGAR, Nov 15: Bhartiya Janata Party’s SMC Corporators today alleged that the funds which were released by the Centre for macadamization have been diverted to Zadibal and Hazratbal constituencies from where the Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu is set to contest elections.
Addressing a conference here, BJP Corporators said that from the Government of India, SMC has received funds amounting to Rs 38.63 crore for macadamization, however, out of that, Rs 31 crores have been spent on Zadibal and Hazratbal constituency alone.

“The higher-ups need to look into the matter of how the approval was secured for it. How was the macadamization carried out in the green belt which is a no-go area and needs the necessary clearance before the start of such works,” Nazir Ahmad Gilkar, one of the Corporators said.
He alleged that the LCMA has not given the NoC, while the violations have been carried out in broad daylight. “There is a need to see who made the estimate and for the approval of over Rs 1 crore, they have to get the approval from the council, but there has not been any meeting of the council held so far,” he said.
The Corporators alleged that the Mayor along with other officials have wasted the funds by utilizing the majority portion of it in just two areas. “The funds were for the macadamization of the deserving city areas, but the same has been shifted to Zadibal and Hazratbal, while others have been told that there was a dearth of funds,” he said.
The Corporators demanded a thorough probe into the matter. “We urge the authorities to conduct a probe in this regard and see to it why the SMC has neglected the areas which needed macadamization,” Gilkar said.
He said that the Mayor is going to contest elections from these constituencies and to appease the vote bank he has resorted to the violation. “Mayor and the Commissioner have hijacked the corporation. We want to tell people that for the macadamization the money was given, but the same has been used somewhere else,” the Corporators said.
