JAMMU, July 25: The Mayor of Jammu, Rajinder Sharma along with a team of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today visited market and distributed DRDO manufactured carry bags made of cellulose and starch.
JMC Joint Commissioner E&R, enforcement team comprising 20 officers and distributors of the DRDO made bags also accompanied the Mayor.
At market, the Mayor distributed the carry bags and introduced the distributor with traders.
The people using polythene carry bags were asked to avoid these and opt for DRDO made carry bags as these are biodegradable and environment friendly unlike the polythene carry bags.
The vendors assured the Mayor to use DRDO made carry bags and will play their proper role in maintaining cleanliness in the city.
It is pertinent to mention here that there was a month long campaign led by the Mayor, Rajinder Sharma to ensure ban on polythene carry bags and other plastic materials used in daily life wherein the Mayor had given alternate of carry bags made of cellulose and starch.
The Mayor asked the traders to buy the carry bag having a stamp of DRDO so that quality materials remain in circulation in the market preventing the duplicity.
“There will also be a QR Code on the carry bag scanning which will display credentials of the manufacturer,” he maintained.
Many people also raised slogans hailing the Mayor while many leaders of the traders also joined the Mayor and said that the cart-vendors at KC crossing should be given DRDO bags and the Mayor assured them to visit them soon.
