UDHAMPUR, June 11: Against the failure of the Jal Shakti Department to address water crisis in Udhampur, former MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia along with scores of workers and general public took out a ‘Matka-Fod’ rally, here today.
The protesters were chanting slogan against the Jal Shakti Department and in favour of their demands.
Mankotia lambasted the department for its failure and said that the PHE department is completely turned blind towards the water crisis which gripped the whole Udhampur Constituency. “If PHE department will not restore the proper supply of water soon, then we will be forced to protest even more strongly,” he warned.
He said that the shortage of water in the city and its adjoining areas has increased manifolds and in this regards the department concerned failed to take appropriate action.
He alleged that the officers of the department are busy in doing ‘Chamchagiri’ of BJP leaders and forget their prime duty. “During his tenure as MLA, every house of the Constituency used to get water every day and on a single demand, the hand pumps were installed but now they had to wait for several months even for repairs,” Mankotia said.
Sarpanch Sunil Manhor, Sarpanch Shivdeb Singh, Hoshiyar Singh, Sarpanch Arshad Mohammed Sarpanch Ashok Kumar, Sarpanch Sushma Devi, Sarpanch Veena Devi, Sarpanch Utam Singh Sarpanch Somraj, Councilor Samnik Bhasin, Naib- Sarpanch Pawan Mehra and many others were part of the protest.
