SRINAGAR, Apr 7: A day after militant attack that left three cops dead in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, security forces today conducted massive manhunt to eliminate the militants behind the attack.
Army and Special Operations Group (SOG) of police cordoned off Kaprin, Karewa Manloo, Mohandpora, Thairna Tachloo and Ayendh villages of the district and conducted search operations to trace out the assailants. However, no one was arrested.
A search operation was also conducted in Lurgam village of Tral in neighboring Pulwama district. It may be mentioned here that one person was shot at by militants in Tral yesterday.
Sources said that Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militants are behind the attack on cops. They said that the policeman-turned-militant, Naseer Pandit, who fled from the residence of Minister Altaf Bukhari in Srinagar, is also believed to be involved in the attack.
Reports said that the militants who carried out the attack were 6 in number including the policeman turned militant. They included Dujana, Khumaini, Saddam, Farooq and Adil.
Three policemen were killed at Amshipora, Shopian after militants attacked on them. The trio, had gone to a village to investigate a land dispute.
