Massive searches in Budgam

SRINAGAR Sept 7: Security forces have launched a massive search operation after a militant fled from a house after a brief gun battle this afternoon in Kawoosa village of district Budgam.
Security forces including Police, Army and CRPF launched a joint operation in Kawoosa village in Narbal area of district Budgam this afternoon on the basis of a specific input about presence of militants.
As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected house, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering an encounter.

The gunfight started at 4:30 pm, after security forces’ teams exchanged heavy volumes of fire. “Since then there has been no contact. But lights stand installed and operation is on,” they said.
A senior police officer said that one local militant of South Kashmir who escaped from the house is injured and hiding in the area. He said that the cordon has been strengthened to prevent his escape from the village.
Security forces also conducted searches of a nearby river as they thought he might have jumped in the river. However, no body or traces of militant were found from the river.
An improvised explosive device (IED) was found on roadside near Arampora in Kupwara today.
The IED was detected by police and Army. A bomb disposal squad team of the Army and police reached the spot and destroyed it.
